Jonathan Fritzén – Piano Tales

275671821_10209264975138762_7680421981498575808_nI have been following Swedish smooth jazz artist Jonathan Fritzen since his first album ‘Love Birds’ came out in 2008. Now his seventh album has been released, of which the single ‘Keys To Paradise’ reached the top of the Billboard Smooth Jazz charts.

All tracks on this new album are his own compositions, but Jonathan also did the recording, mixing and production himself. The title of each track refers to the piano, and that comes from the aforementioned single.

Jonathan has also released a second single, ‘Hammers of Love’, which has entered the top ten on the Billboard Smooth Jazz charts.

Jonathan Fritzén – Ballads

Hailing from Stockholm, Sweden’s finest export of smooth jazz, piano magician Jonathan Fritzén spreads his wings over the States. With his 6th album Ballads (2017) he demonstrates the rightness of his compositional concept.

Guest musicians on his new project are Alex Crown and Andreas Rydman (guitars), Katarina Fritzén (flute) and Peter “Peet” Ferencz (violin). All other instruments are played by Jonathan, who also composed, produced and mixed all songs.

The Journey is remarkable in its quiet, unobtrusive song structure, which fits so wonderfully to the Swedish natural landscape. The piano is the main carrier of the sonic sequence and is gently accompanied by a violin arrangement.

Jonathan Fritzén – Ballads

Over the past ten years, Smooth Jazz fans who like to get a groove on with infectious keyboard melodies have enjoyed being “Fritzenized,” that is, having their hearts, souls and dancing shoes infused with Jonathan Fritzén’s blend of lush ballads and all-out party jams.

The multi-faceted, Swedish American composer and keyboardist’s sixth album Ballads showcases the gentle, graceful side of his musical personality. On a mission to “bring calm, clarity and the rejuvenation of both mind and soul,” to a challenged world, he complements his gorgeous piano and keyboard melodies with artful touches of electric guitar, exotic percussion, sweeping synth textures and violin. Fritzen’s original Ballads will bring peace to your days and love to your nights!

Jonathan Fritzen – Fritzenized

With an apparent target audience of pop-oriented fans, Swedish-American keyboardist Jonathan Fritzen releases Fritzenized (Nordic Night Records, 2015).

Fritzen adopted part of the smooth jazz radio formula. The selections are catchy and, with little exception, fit neatly into the approximate four-minute window intended for radio singles. Still, it’s a nice selection. Fritzen is accompanied by a variable lineup of guest musicians and vocalists.

“Fingers on Fire” is a happy-go-lucky groove. With Randy Jacobs on guitars, Alex Al on bass, Andreas Ekstedt on percussion and Fredo Osterlund on drums, Fritzen handles piano, keys and synth programming. One programming effect is of a violin that complements the piano during a phrase in the chorus. Jacobs throws in a little wah-wah effect here and there. No one element stands out. Instead, the joy of this song is the attitude projected by the musicians, as if they’re saying, “Let’s just have some fun.”

Jonathan Fritzén – Fritzenized

The level of awareness of pianist and keyboard player Jonathan Fritzén has increased rapidly in recent years. This is not only caused by his numerous spectacular performances but also by his albums Love Birds (2008), VIP (2009), Diamonds (2010) and Magical (2012).

With his new album Fritzenized (2015) Jonathan continues to his earlier successes. In addition to guest stars like Gerald Albright and Paul Taylor (sax), Nils Landgren (trombone) and singer Laila Adele, international top musicians participate in the recording such as Alex Al and Mel Brown (bass), Randy Jacobs (guitar), and others.

On the trace after the popular song Jonathan can cook it with Fingers on Fire. When the song picks up speed, he falls into staccato. It gets interesting. Euphoria is an excited state of joy, a good feeling, a state of intense happiness. The aptly title for this joyful melody featuring Paul Taylor on sax.

Jonathan Fritzén – Magical

Jonathan Fritzén is Sweden’s premium export in Smooth Jazz. He is known by his albums Love Birds (2008), VIP (2009) and Diamonds (2010). He supported the release of his albums with numerous live performances in USA.

His newest project is entitled Magical and already in the top ten of the Billboard charts. As on his previous albums Fritzén is supported by famous artists like Boney James, Paul Brown, Jackiem Joyner, Darren Rahn, Malene Mortensen and Vincent Ingala.

The first track is the title song and also the first single frequently played on the remaining smooth jazz radio stations. It is debatable whether the composition talent or musical virtuosity of this artist is greater. Magical meets all the requirements of a capturing song and with Boney James on sax he has a suitable figurehead.
