Jackiem Joyner – Touch

For saxophonist Jackiem Joyner standstill is not a condition. No wonder that he has shaped his solo career in a short period of time with a multitude of releases. This Time Around (2005), Baby Soul (2007), Lil’ Man Soul (2008), Jackiem Joyner (2010), Church Boy (2012), Evolve (2014) and Main Street Beat (2017) are signals of his creativity and quality.

In view of the decline of the music business in the classical sense, it is vital for musicians to create new business areas and build up their network with other musicians. On his new album Touch (2019) Jackiem has invited guitarist Peter White and flutist Najee, who are well known far beyond their genre. In addition he is supported by JP Mourao (acoustic guitar), Kyle Bolden (electric guitar), Timothy Bailey, D. Baker (various instruments), Dee Cole Laing, and Brittany Frappier (vocals).

The romantic aspect of music seems to be a sought-after field of activity for many musicians. Last Dance follows the same musical line with a softly played soprano saxophone and Peter White’s lyrical approach on acoustic guitar.

Marcos Ariel – Wave Hunter

Wave Hunter is the meeting of pianist, singer and songwriter Marcos Ariel with incredible Dual Jazz formed by guitarist and composer Enéas Marques and drummer, composer, producer and recording engineer Roberto Alemão Marques. The three friends always have a very strong connection with the Sea. Marcos Ariel spent his childhood on Leblon beach and already as a teenager, started to attend the beaches of Ipanema, Copacabana and Arpoador. In Buzios, the hottest beach resort in Rio de Janeiro, he risked his experience as a surfer, but his commitment to piano studies led him to opt for 100% music.

In the case of Enéas Marques and Roberto Alemão, the situation is different. The two grew up on the beaches of the Rio de Janeiro Lakes Region. At the beaches of Saquarema, Iacoatiara and Buzios, the two friends grew up surfing the waves of the Sea and so as in the musical partnership, surfing the Sound Waves. Even today the friends of Dual Jazz, maintain an intense activity in sea sports such as surfing, windsurfing, Stand Up Paddling, and canoeing. After releasing several albums, Dual Jazz team up with Marcos Ariel to produce and release Wave Hunter.

The recordings had three very special appearances. On the bass, João Baptista (Night Sail,Cali Soul, Big Sur Cruise, Wave Hunter) and Francisco Falcão (Emerald Bay, Crystal Wave), brought the firm pulse and virtuous interpretation to the songs of the CD. On vocals, a revelation. The young singer May, with great beauty and sensitivity, drew some songs like Wave Hunter, Adu, Crystal Wave and Night Sailing.

Vassilis “Blue” Sotiriou – Live Your Life

Vassilis “Blue” Sotiriou was born in 1966 in Kozani. He was only 5 years old when his father gave him his first guitar. That same year they moved to Thessaloniki where he resides today. The greatest moment-station of his career was when he first recorded his own music pieces in a recording studio [with Greek lyrics which are still unpublished] and he played with one of the greatest trumpet players in the world the unforgettable Danny Hayes, who has been for many years a member of Big Band of the great musician and drummer Buddy Rich.

His Jazz-Blues album entitled “Reach The Skies” [2013] is another important moment in his career while playing with Greek All Stars musicians [as Blue used to call them], the excellent singer performer Jacey Falk, and his favorite guitarist and composer [and his partner for many years, the great pianist Charles Brown] Danny Caron.

These days he is released his new CD album called ‘Live Your Life’ with his own compositions again, with the greatest musicians in Greece and some of the great singers around the world like Raja Nee, Robert Finney Sr, Morris Rocky Whitaker, Debora Galan, George Perin.

Chillaxing Jazz Kollektion – Groove Jazz N Chill # 7

Multi-instrumentalist Konstantin Klashtorni, best known as the most active musician in the Smooth Jazz genre, hadn’t appeared in months. Not until September of this year did the relief news come, a new album is released. Considering his huge total works, the question arose, in which section will the album be released?

Chillaxing Jazz KolleKtion presents Groove Jazz N Chill #7. That’s called constancy.  Exclusively composed and recorded by Konstantin himself. He also manufactures and distributes his albums and thus demonstrates his economic independence as a creative artist.

Memories of Us opens the album with a soft breeze of melody and a nicely balance of keys and sax. The swelling and decaying wave-tone provides an atmospheric basis for the use of piano and saxophone. Changing Seasons emphasizes a harmonious sonic collage of different sounds, which is very close to the spherical sounds of New Age music.

Carol Albert – Stronger Now

Embarking on a fresh new chapter in her life musically, emotionally and spiritually, Carol Albert builds upon the inspiring career-shifting momentum of her recent Billboard Top Ten chart successes with her perfectly titled new full-length album Stronger Now. Featuring all original songs written and arranged by the prolific composer and pianist, the stylistically eclectic, 10 track collection – follow up to her 2017 breakthrough album Fly Away Butterfly – is set for release on Cahara Records January 31, 2020.

Stronger Now includes two tracks previously released as singles that lit up terrestrial, internet and satellite stations. The Atlanta based artist scored her biggest success to date early in 2019 with the Brazilian flavored “Femme Flight,” which hit #4 on the Billboard Smooth Jazz Songs chart. Produced by Carol, mixed by two-time Grammy winning hitmaker Paul Brown and featuring flutist Ragan Whiteside and saxophonist Magdalena Chovancova, the track also earned Albert a new legion of fans via airplay on SiriusXM’s Watercolors.

Also featured on Stronger Now is Carol’s latest single “Sun’s Out,” a Latin tinged track produced and mixed by Brown that is currently in the Top Ten on the Billboard Smooth Jazz Songs chart as well as MediaBase, Smooth Jazz Top 20 at #5, Radiowave at #3 and GrooveJazz Chart at #2. Her earlier chart hits include “Chasing Waterfalls” (which reached #15), “Fly Away Butterfly” (#5) and “One Way.”

Stronger Now is the first of Carol’s albums to predominantly feature production by Brown, who has scored over 60 #1 chart smashes for genre greats Peter White, Larry Carlton, Rick Braun, Kirk Whalum, Euge Groove, the late Al Jarreau and many others. In addition to the five tracks he produced (“Stronger Now,” “Love Again,” “Perfect Sunday,” “Sun’s Out,” “I Am Fine”), Carol helmed “For The Moment” (which features Brown on guitar), “Femme Flight” and “Moon on the Water” and co-produced (with Brown’s longtime associate Lew Laing) “Winter Rain” and “’Til We Meet Again.”

Brian Simpson & Steve Oliver – Unified

“I’m an advocate of music healing and bringing people together,” says guitarist/vocalist, composer and producer Steve Oliver. “Let your mind wander along the path these songs take and perhaps you’ll have a brighter day, or connect with your deepest emotions,” adds pianist, composer and producer Brian Simpson. Unified, the anticipated new recording from Simpson and Oliver, showcases the chart-topping Contemporary Jazz pioneers’ good will in a captivating set of eleven moving originals. “I have worked with Brian on his last two solo albums and we have such a blast being creative in the studio. We laugh a lot!”

The sheer joy that Oliver and Simpson share permeates every note on Unified and is evidenced in their joyous interplay, effervescent grooves and mind-bending soundscapes. Independently, the two have been churning out hits for over two decades. Simpson’s Midas touch has been called upon by everyone from Janet Jackson, Teena Marie and George Duke, to Stanley Clarke, Boney James and Dave Koz. Oliver’s winning approach has allowed him to collaborate with the likes of The Neville Brothers, Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Reid, Larry Carlton, Rick Braun, Acoustic Alchemy and Gato Barbieri, to name a few.

On Unified Brian Simpson and Steve Oliver enlist help from bassist Alex Al, drummer Eric Valentine and percussionist Ramon Yslas. The CD opens with the inviting, spicy and funky title track and album’s first single. Simpson and Oliver set the perfect mood to take you for a spin on the dance floor with a righteous combination of sophistication and soul. The exquisite “The Road Never Ends” travels a euphoric path with its shifting and pulsating rhythms, sailing melodies and harmonic twists. A few tracks on Unified lean towards Brian Simpson and Steve Oliver’s affinity for EDM. “Our original vision for the CD was more of an electronic music concept, but as it is evolved it moved more into a Contemporary Jazz project.” Two of the tracks that showcase this vibe are the hypnotic “What The Wind Knows,” and the ethereal “Last Summer.” “I am a big fan of electronic music and I like the combination of great rhythms and melodies with acoustic instruments and electronic sounds,” shares Oliver who is a fan of both Art of Noise and Dzihan & Kamien. Label-mate and trumpeter Rick Braun joins Simpson and Oliver on the bluesy swinger “Fired Up,” while the tender “Like No Other” will have you singing its sweet and ear-catching melody in no time.

Javier Pitera – Just Being By Your Side

Since childhood, Javier Pitera knew that he was destined for a musical vocation. Later he studied piano, composition, arrangement and harmony at the Institute of Music and Technology in Madrid, focusing on Hammond’s organ as the instrument of choice. In 1995, he started his career composing music for radio, television and advertising. His first album “A Summer without End”, released in 2007, received good reviews. In 2009 his album “Two months inside the fashion world” was released. Powerful, intimate, sexy and elegant, this album combines all the musical influences: funk, soul, jazz, bossa and pop. The result is a sensual and touching experience. In 2012 he released the album “Intense”, a new collection of songs whose style differs, but in which the Hammond organ and the soft roots of jazz are a connecting thread.

Now, in 2019, he presents his new album “Just being by your side”, a disc that stays true to its style, but at the same time evolves into new sound environments and, on this occasion, approaches the sounds of the origins of smooth jazz and its diverse stylistic influences.

Cory Wong – Motivational Music for the Syncopated Soul

Recognized for his high-speed improvisational skills, fun-loving performance spirit, and a flexible right wrist, guitarist Cory Wong had a multifaceted music career in his base of Minneapolis, Minnesota before becoming better known for regular guest spots as rhythm guitarist for R&B/funk outfit Vulfpeck in the mid-2010s.  In 2016 Wong released the solo EP MSP, Pt. 1. He made his official full-length solo debut in September 2017 with the eclectic Cory Wong and the Green Screen Band, a playful fusion of funk.

Wong’s second solo album came about after he got a call from organist Ricky Peterson (George Benson, David Sanborn) saying he’d be in Minneapolis the following week. Excited about the prospect of joining him in the studio, Wong told Peterson he’d been working on some songs and asked if he would like to get together to record them. Wong scrambled to write some songs in the days leading up to the session, while also putting together a rhythm section comprising bassist Sonny Thompson and drummer Michael Bland, both former Prince band members. A second lineup joined him for an additional session in Minneapolis, and a third session with Ben Rector and his band took place in Nashville. The resulting release, August 2018’s The Optimist, also featured long-distance contributions from Stanley, Marti Fischer, and KATIS, as well as the horn section Hornheads.

Motivational Music for the Syncopated Soul is his third album now on sale at bandcamp.
