Marcus Anderson – My Inspiration Vol. 2

Marcus Anderson‘s peak musical collaboration was certainly his time with the legend Prince. Even today, Marcus presents on many of his performances preciosity from his repertoire. In the meantime he has already released eleven studio albums, which have settled in the area of gospel and smooth jazz.

Marcus has like Kirk Whalum a gospel side. My Inspiration Vol. 1 was released in 2016. Now Marcus returns with the second edition aptly titled My Inspiration Vol. 2 (2019). Marcus’ aim is to make gospel music even more popular by incorporating elements of jazz, soul, pop and urban adult contemporary.

In addition to saxophonist Marcus, the following musicians are involved in this worship project Demetrice Everette, AJ Gamble (drums), Antwon Timmons, AJ Brown (bass), Jordan Love, Damell Taylor, Nemo Miller (guitar), Ashley Mimieweather, Josh Cisell, Tamala Hairston, Marcus Cole, Diamond Smith, Cheylaine Perkins (vocals), Lio Saiz (trumpet), Jonathan Butler (acoustic guitar and vocals), Chris Adams, Bertron Curtis (organ), Derrick Adams (Rhodes), Nicholas Cole, Aarik Duncan (keyboards). Marcus performs alto, tenor, baritone sax and flute, Nile Hargrove keys, organ, guitar and programming.

Marcus Anderson – Limited Edition

What has Marcus Anderson in common with Candy Dulfer and Maceo Parker? He was like the previous mentioned artists one of late Prince’s saxophonists. His fully packed tour schedule confirms his enduring popularity.

On his new album Limited Edition (2017) he teams up with some of the best talents in smooth jazz such as pianists and keyboardists Brian Culbertson and Nicholas Cole, bass guitarist Ashley A Luv Doe, and guitarists Adam Hawley and Darnell Showcase Taylor.

The album kicks off with the powered-up title song enhanced by producer Steven J. Collins with energizing auto-tuned vocals. Backseat Drivers continues the hype with vital energy and a big dose of overdubbed sax featuring guitarist Adam Hawley.

Marcus Anderson – Limited Edition

Marcus Anderson – Style Meets Substance

Style Meets Substance is a demanding title full of promise. Can Marcus Anderson fulfill this aroused expectations? The necessary personal and musical requirements he certainly brings along. As one of the saxophonist in Prince’s band the New Power Generation he convinced the audience with his performance.

With five albums under his belt he also has the experience of a lengthy solo career. All started with his debut album My Turn in 2005, soon followed by From the Heart (2009), NOW (2011), and “TLC” Tender Loving Christmas (2011).

Anderson has written, performed, arranged and produced all songs of the new album. He is joined by Bertron Curtis and Nicholas Cole (keys), Kenny Leonhard (organ), Demetrice Everett and Calvin Napper (drums), Fitzgerald McGill (guitar), Chris Ellis and AJ Brown (bass), Morris Hayes (synth solo) on selected tracks.
