Bahama Soul Club – Bohemia After Dawn

Central element of the music of Bahama Soul Club is the percussion. This is no coincidence, because this formation was founded by Oliver Belz, a dedicated percussionist. Second in the group is keyboardist André Neundorf.

Together they released Rhythm Is What Makes Jazz Jazz (2008), Bossa Nova Just Smells Funky (2010), Bossa Nova Just Smells Funky Remixed (2013), The Cuban Tapes (2013), and Havana ’58 (2016). This year they are back with Bohemia After Dawn.

Additional artists on this edition are York (sax, flutes), Ralli King (guitar), Holger Stonjek (bass), Lars Lehmann (bass), Maike Jacobs (vocals), Claus Hartisch (guitar, bass), and Bela Heine (guitar). All tracks are written and performed by Oliver Belz and André Neundorf.

Bahama Soul Club – Bohemia After Dawn

Bohemia After Dawn, the soundtrack of a lifestyle compiled in 12 sun soaked songs. After an endless time of silence around the German Nu-Jazz outfit they’re back! Laid back and lovely, matured and mellow to spoil us with their uber-cool vibe coming directly from the breezy Algarve. Bahama Soul Club’s 5th album draws deep inspiration from the multicultural verve of young worldly folk drawn to the Bohemian coasts of the most southwestern part of Europe, where hippiesque hedonism, infinite musical diversity, and offbeat enchanted lifestyles fuel the scene.

„From countless ideas and numerous demos over the past four years, we handpicked those few songs that shone the brightest. “2018 saw a single release ‘Never Roam No More’ featuring the legendary John Lee Hooker. 2019 ‘Aint Nobody’s Business’ featuring Billie Holiday hit the scene. Another real legend, Sister Wynona Carr is featured on ‘Tears Run Down’. „Increasingly during production we became aware of the amazing complexity of local artists, talented individuals to be found performing all day and night in the bars and near the beaches. It would take more than a couple of albums to bring these troubadours together. So there are exciting ideas for the future!

For this album we began with just few, an eclectic mix, we found our studio blessed with some serious vibes. Josephine Nightingale ‘Mercy Me’, ‘Castelejo’ and Taly Minkov-Louzeiro ‘Troubles all be gone’. The ultimate track on the album ‘Castelejo’ is dear to our hearts and an homage to the late Vitor Hugo, featuring Rui Correia on accordeon and vocals by Cutty Wren and Hedvig Larsson. These artists are from the local neighborhood, quite literally across the lane. What a blessing, what a discovery!

Last but not least … One of the most exciting voices in the Bahama Soul Club family so far … an ongoing love, Cuban artist Arema Arega is somewhat a permanent feature and shows her talents in ‘Mango’ and ‘Alma Sola’. As if this weren’t enough we’re more than proud to announce two cool remixes from the masters of the scene: Mighty Club des Belugas and SMOOVE himself! Nuff said.

Bohemia After Dawn, matured for 4 sunny years, doesn’t say “Hey, please like me”. It is just there, in its simple beauty, unobtrusive yet quietly confident. Every song shaped to the max, no compromises. Promise! Available everywhere or here.

Dirk K – Selfie Nation

Dirk K, guitarist with German heritage, has a strong affinity for Latin jazz and smooth jazz. More than 16 solo albums, eight CDs with band projects and over 30 albums for other performers are a vivid testimony to his productivity. His newest project Selfie Nation (2019) is however a departure to new shores.

Dirk himself settles his new music on in the area of electronic dance music, jazz and world music and uses the adjective incongruous, ambient, peculiar. So let us prepare ourselves for the special. The length of the pieces, which are not at all adapted to the radio format, is already unusual. A rebellion?

Dirk K plays on the new album all instruments and is joined by David Inamine (bass) and Michael Joy (Wurlitzer, Rhodes and Mini Moog on Nothing Personal). Special guest is King Ibu on Selfie Nation (vocals and talking drum). Dirk has written Selfie Nation, all other songs are covers.

Club Des Belugas & Thomas Siffling – Ragbag

Club des Belugas describe themselves as one of the leading Nujazz bands in Europe, perhaps in the world. They combine contemporary European Electro, Lounge & Nujazz Styles with Brazilian Beats, Swing and American Black Soul of the fifties, sixties and seventies using their unique creativity and intensity.

The term Nujazz or nu jazz is a mixture of jazz and contemporary electronic music. Emerging in the late 1990’s Nujazz blends jazz elements with other musical styles, such as funk, soul, electronic music, and free improvisation.

The core of this formation consists of Maxim Illion ( keyboard, bass & percussion) and Kitty the Bill ( keyboard) assembling a great amount of other musicians. In collaboration with Mannheim, Germany based trumpeter Thomas Siffling they have already released the album The ChinChin Sessions (2013).
