Von Stupart – On My Way

On My WaySaxophonist Von Stupart performs contemporary jazz. Music has always been a huge part of his life. His father played trumpet and his son started formal music lessons at an early age. He has been developing and honing his craft ever since. His primary instrument is the tenor saxophone but he also plays alto, soprano and EWI.

Christophe Goze – Instrumentals

instrumentalsThe French artist Christophe Goze, who now lives in Barcelona, has been reviewed here several times. He had 2 ideas for his latest album, which will only be released digitally.

First, he wanted to show the listeners how he produces songs. When he removed the jazzy guitar and the chill-out & lounge sound, the jazzy track sounded really lounge. That’s how he came up with the idea of releasing it instrumentally. Second, he got the idea to invite other people to play on it.

In his own words it was: “Enjoy some of my most known tracks as instrumental versions, featuring beats and sounds that complement and enhance the original track. The tracks have been remixed for that purpose exposing some of my lounge & downtempo producer secrets & skills Without my lead guitars the music reveals even more of its chill & relaxing feel accompanied perfectly by candlelight and red wine.”

Chris Standring – The Lovers Remix Collection

theloversremixcollectionI’ve been following contemporary jazz guitarist Chris Standring for many years, and have reviewed quite a bit of his work for http://www.smoothjazz.eu. Chris has already topped the Billboard charts 11 times, but for his 25th anniversary as a solo artist he wanted to do something special.

While his contemporary jazz-based catalog consists of a variety of tones, tempos and textures – from instrumental pop and improvisational jazz to soul-driven funk and romantic ballads – the requests he receives most from fans show their ardent affection for his chill grooves.

That fact immediately sowed the concept for this album. That album, which arrived on the set of Ultimate Vibe Recordings on June 9, features Chris reprising 10 tracks from his original songbook, along with one new track, a bluesy, country meets electronic jazz version of Peter Green’s ‘Albatross’, a personal favorite from when he was grew up in England.

Ron Bosse – Burning Room Only: The Afterburners

BRA

When jazz fusion guitarist Ron Bosse starts writing music for an album, he keeps writing, winding up with more songs than he can include on the album. That’s what happened with his “Burning Room Only” album that he wrote with Grammy-winning keyboardist and the project’s producer Jeff Lorber, which was issued last November. The success of the Deep Cat Records album inspired Bosse to release a couple of tunes that were left off the disc that have the same “burning” theme in addition to releasing a few alternate versions of songs from the album featuring prominent and highly esteemed collaborators. Assembled as a six-track EP, “Burning Room Only: The Afterburners” releases on June 30.

The EP opens the way the album opens, with “Bossman.” There are two versions on “The Afterburners,” the first of which spotlights Grammy-winning trumpeter Randy Brecker trading barbs with Bosse’s clean and crisp electric guitar.

“I’ve been a huge fan of Randy Brecker since I was a student at Berklee College of Music. Since many of the songs on the album have saxophone as another melodic voice, we felt that trumpet would be a great contrast. Jeff (Lorber) and I immediately thought of Randy as we are both big fans. I think he was the perfect choice and his (trumpet) voice really brings an element to this song that takes it to a different place. Not only does he help add punch to the melody I wrote, but he also adds these beautiful ambient soundscapes via his solos that remind me of some of the old fusion stuff Miles Davis did,” said the Boston-based Bosse, who plans to release this version as a single. Dallas David Ochoa – Sirens and Sigils

sirensAtmospheric guitar melodies and indie rock hooks coalesce in the sounds of singer-songwriter/guitarist Dallas David Ochoa. His music delves into many musical territories – from cinematic instrumentals to funk rock – and has been likened to the sounds of Prince, Chris Spheeris, Dave Matthews, Mike Patton, and Frank Zappa. Dallas has performed at many festivals and showcases around America, and his music has been featured on NBC, SiriusXM, curated playlists, and is currently in rotation on FM, internet and college stations across the globe. Dallas’ unique music shines in any musical formation — solo or with his band, Dallas Ochoa Trio.

Dallas’ most recent release from Heart Dance Records – “Sirens and Sigils” – is a contemporary instrumental EP produced by acclaimed audio wizard Cass Anawaty. “Sirens and Sigils” is an emotive collection of guitar-centric music with its foundations rooted in acoustic, electric, and ambient textures. Ultimately this is Dallas’ ode to the ancient mysteries of the sea and to that nostalgic human feeling of yearning for the coastline.

“Sirens and Sigils” was released on all major platforms on June 9, 2023.
