Jeff Logan – Indigo

jeff_logan_indigoAfrican-American composer and multi-instrumentalist Jeff Logan hails from the DMV region, i.e. Washington, DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia. He plays bass, guitar, percussion and keyboards.

He has already released several albums and composes in various genres such as contemporary gospel, R&B, smooth jazz and soundtrack. Now his latest album has been released, and it contains 10 original smooth jazz compositions. However, Jeff has incorporated elements from gospel, R&B and other musical influences.

Previously, Jeff had performed and produced everything himself, but now he was looking for a producer. He found that in the person of Paul Brown, the Quincy Jones of smooth jazz productions. Paul provided production for all songs, and also played electric & nylon guitar and percussion. In addition, Shane Theriot (bass, drums, guitar and keyboards), Roberto Vally (bass), Gorden Campbell (drums), Greg Vail (sax) and Ron King (trumpet) came to lend a hand.

The album was produced by Paul Brown.

Let’s start with the sweetness of Lemonade. Jeff presents himself in his usual casual manner on the piano and is harmoniously supported by the horns of Ron King and Greg Vail. The relaxed attitude continues with Chill Factor, where gentle guitar music pushes itself to the fore.

Jeff Logan – Indigo

jeff_logan_indigoIndigo is a natural plant-based hue produced through a transformational process that unfolds over time. R&B/jazz keyboardist Jeff Logan has been going through his own transformative process that inspired the title of his long-germinating second album “Indigo,” which will drop on April 12 via the Fire and Ice Network label. Two-time Grammy winner Paul Brown (Boney James, Norman Brown, Al Jarreau, Bob James) produced the ten-song set written by Logan who opened his heart to reveal intimate moments, introspective reflections and personal stories of love, heartbreak and hope culled from the process of real life.

Logan has always been a prolific songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, constantly composing and recording new material in his home studio, playing all the instruments himself. As a composer, he has an innate way with melody. However, he hasn’t shared any of his recordings publicly since his 2011 debut album, “Black Tie Affair.” Since that project, he went through a painful divorce, was distanced from his daughters, and logged innumerable high-stress hours serving as the Chief of Population Management for Prince George’s County, Maryland Department of Corrections.

Daily, Logan found solace sitting at his keyboard, strumming his guitar, and thumping his bass to create new music, amassing a catalogue of over four hundred songs. The creative outlet enabled him to remain hopeful and optimistic while his spirituality kept a bright smile on his face through the tumult. But to grow as an artist, Logan had to take a leap of faith: surrender production duties to someone else and bring in additional musicians.

Dan Siegel – Indigo

Indigo is the color of blue jeans. As intense as this color is the expressive music of the gifted pianist Dan Siegel. With his 20th album, he has introduced much of his rich musical experience.

As with his earlier works Siegel has again collaborated with bassist Brian Bromberg, who co-produced the album and also brought in his bass. Further participating musicians are Bob Sheppard (sax), Allen Hinds (guitars), Will Kennedy (drums), Craig Fundyga (vibraphone) and Lenny Castro (percussion). Additional musicians shared the recordings on single tracks.

The title of the first track To Be Continued signals the continuity to his earlier albums. With Alan Kaplan (Euphonium), Stan Martin (flugelhorn) and Stephanie O’Keefe (horn) Siegel provides an orchestral background, which reminds atmospherically of the music of Pat Metheny.

Dan Siegel – Indigo

indigoHaving recorded a catalogue of Top 10 albums in a vivid spectrum of jazz hues with topflight musicians for 35 years, Dan Siegel only emerges when he has something engaging to say with his poetic piano and crafty keyboards. Back with his first new statement in five years, Siegel’s DSM record label will release Indigo on October 14, a set comprised of ten new compositions that he wrote, arranged and shared production chores with Grammy-nominated bassist Brian Bromberg.

On his 20th album, Siegel creates right up the spine of the jazz dichotomy allowing the melodies, improvisational soloing and grooves to unfold and flourish unencumbered by restrictive genre borders and polarizing labels. His cerebral compositions traverse the expansive jazz terrain, but do so with heart rendering them instantly accessible. The keyboardist has a gift for writing inviting, emotionally-evocative material that connects soulfully.

“My tendency is it to overwrite, which can make it challenging for the listener. I believe the emotional allure of the music on this album (“Indigo”) transcends its compositional complexity,” said the Irvine, California-based artist who was born in Seattle, Washington and raised in Eugene, Oregon. Indigo – Stay together

„Let´s stay together “ – The album starts with this great hit-song from soul singer Al Green in a groovy but dreamily way. Perhaps the most successful jazz song “Take Five” reflects an European lounge-sound with acoustic instruments. “Have you met miss Jones” and “Isn´t she lovely” are cool jazz tunes with nice swinging solos from drums, bass and guitar. The emotional ballads “Moon River” and “Somewhere over the rainbow” are tastefully played with acoustic and electric guitar. Brazilian flavoured latin-jazz tunes are Antonio Carlos Jobims “Girl from Ipanema” and Matt Biancos “Half a minute”.

Both are featuring Jost with a heart touching Spanish nylon string guitar. The Cuban-arrangement of Stevie Wonders “You are the sunshine of my life” shows the impressing vocals of the guest singer Dian Pratiwi of Indonesia. The album ends with an smooth vocal version of Marvin Gayes “What´s going on”. In summary, it can be stated that all the songs on this album articulate a variety of tunes and styles from jazz, swing, pop, soul and Latin in a small and compact trio setting with lots of feeling and emotions. Please stay together, Indigo!
