Karén Devroop – Relentles

ejPR17BAOne of South Africa’s leading jazz saxophonists, Karén Devroop (pronounced Car-ren) is widely acknowledged in South Africa and internationally as a versatile and dynamic performer. He has 5 CD recordings as a leader and several live and studio recordings as a sideman on various, Jazz, RnB and POP albums. In addition to recent performances at the Amersfoort Jazz Festival (Netherlands), Kreol Festival (Seychelles), Velia Festival (Italy) and Ost-Wes Musikfest (Austria) he recently completed a major tour of Italy (2023). Devroop has collaborated with a host of international artists and also performed as a jazz saxophone soloist with leading orchestras in the North America, Europe and South Africa.

His 2020 CD recording Ancestral Home had two tracks enter the Smooth Jazz Global Listener Charts while the album received airplay in over 40 countries. In March 2023, he also released a jazz quartet album entitled Dance of the Indentured which is currently receiving airplay internationally. Equally comfortable with traditional jazz, smooth jazz, RnB and POP, Devroop credits his role models Andy Snitzer, Eric Marienthal, David Sanborn, Gerald Albright and Michael Brecker for his development as a solo artist.

This album contains 10 original smooth jazz compositions by Devroop ranging from groove laden tunes such as Relentless, Hot & Spicy and Selfless to ballads such as Devotion and Simple Things. Included on the album are three vocal tracks including the heart-wrenching “One day at a time” and the high energy, dirty loops influenced vocal track entitled “She loves to dance”. This CD recording features an all-star cast of smooth jazz artists from South Africa and internationally.

The new album entitled Relentless is now available on all online platforms.
