Marcus Johnson – Solo Piano Sessions: Christmas

When we have to define the term entrepreneur in the smooth jazz genre, comes one person immediately in mind. Marcus Johnson is the musician with the greatest need and field of activity. He founded with businessman Robert L. Johnson the label Three Keys Music signing artists like Bobby Lyle, Jaared, Michael Lington, Joey Summerville, Nick Colionne and others.

He established the full-service recording studio, Studio 8121, where he also teaches music seminars. He has been morning host on Washington, DC’s Smooth Jazz 105.9. He teaches a music business development course at Bowie State University. Beside these activities he released nineeen albums while constantly touring the States and abroad.

His newest project is Solo Piano Sessions: Christmas. This is Marcus Johnson’s first foray into recorded Solo Piano! The tasty-heartfelt arrangements and recordings are sure to be holiday favorites for years to come. And get ready for the solo Bonus Chill-hop version of Oh Christmas Tree.

Eiffel TowerJuris is the the dynamic collaboration between billboard ranked, NAACP Image Award nominated jazz pianist, Marcus Johnson from Washington, DC, and smooth urban DJ/Producer/Remixer for Paris, Young Pulse.

Marcus Johnson joined forces with Young Pulse (of the European group SoFresh Squad and creator of the French remix of Soulja Boy’s “Crank That”) to release FLO Chill: Volume 2. Young Pulse, a smooth urban European producer, journeyed across the Atlantic to join Marcus Johnson, one of the best and brightest contributors to the American contemporary jazz scene to form Juris, a play off on Johnson’s study of law at Georgetown University. After the success of the Billboard charting Poetically Justified, Marcus Johnson, released his latest CD This Is How I Rock on July 27, 2010. The album boldly delves into the pop/rock genre with a jazz spin as Johnson captures some of the industry’s most notable songs that influenced him earlier in his career. This CD exemplifies Johnson’s versatility and brilliant interpretive skills and will engage listeners with his signature jazz funk sound.

On his new album Poetically Justified he invited musicians like David Dyson (bass), Marcus Anderson (EWI/vocoder, synthesizers), Stanley Cooper (guitar), Maysa (lead vocals) and many more.

The European chill out-style has started its triumphal march to the States. No wonder, that Marcus begins his album with the song Chillaxin. Marcus introduces the theme with some piano notes, then Freddy “Boom Boom” Moses lets the drum programming flow with chilling bongo and Tablas beats. He takes over the theme on synthesizers, modulating it in his multiple facets.
