Lisa McClowry – Lisa McClowry Sings Acoustic Alchemy

Vocalization. The Manhattan Transfer has made a career of it – the art of taking an instrumental piece, adding lyrics and making it something singable. Lisa McClowry enters that venue with Lisa McClowry Sings Acoustic Alchemy (Big Deal Records, 2012), fresh, lyric interpretations of 10 songs recorded by the British-based guitar duo of Greg Carmichael and Miles Gilderdale.

Jim Peterik is the driving force behind this project. Fresh of his successful Lifeforce project, Forces at Play, the Grammy and Oscar-winning songwriter (“Eye of the Tiger” from the Rocky IV film) wrote the uplifting lyrics for each song. Chicago-based McClowry is touring the United States with Carmichael and Gilderdale as special guests.

The driving bass by Richard Patterson and drums by Khari Parker help propel “Got to Share This Feeling.” McClowry’s voice is rich, soothing yet powerful. The energy she brings puts a lot of sunshine in an already bright piece. The song is based on AA’s “Wish You Were Near.”

Lisa McClowry – Time Signatures

Chicago artist Lisa McClowry definitely loves to sing. Still on high school she already founded her first band Mischief and performed on various gigs. Her debut album Spyglass Hill was released in 2001. Together with her friend Thomas Linsk she formed the successful band Tom & Lisa. With the group Joe Hurt Trio she shared another album in 2006.

In 2005 she joined Jim Peterik (Eye Of The Tiger) on his concert. In 2006 she sung on his rock album Above The Storm. Her next collaboration with Jim was on the album Diary of a Chameleon (2007). The song Before the Tree Comes Down (2007) was her tribute to America’s war effort.

Her first appearance in the smooth jazz genre was on Jim Peterik’s album Lifeforce (2008). Now he gives the favor back with his strong support on Lisa’s new album Time Signatures (2010). He produced her new album, wrote or co-wrote with her all songs and performed guitars, keyboards, percussion and more on her album.

Lisa McClowry – Time Signatures

In collaboration with mentor/producer Jim Peterik (Grammy award winner, Oscar nominee for “Eye Of The Tiger,” writer of “The Search Is Over,” “Hold On Loosely,” “Vehicle” and many more), vocalist Lisa McClowry will release Time Signatures in June 2010 under the NuGroove/Worldstage Int’l label and is distributed by Red/Sony.

The expert craftsmanship of Peterik lends itself throughout the album to include the blistering “Born Twice,” the smoldering heat of “Waiting for You” and the joyous self-empowerment anthem of “Powerful Day.”

“Writing with Jim has brought the best out in my lyrics and melodies. The songs reflect the way I look at life, positive messages with an edge. My vocal approach is to communicate the emotion of the song simple as that,” said McClowry.

How the listeners interpret the music is equally important to this songbird. “My hope is that people will see themselves in my music…see that there’s more out there…uncover the truth in their soul,” she said.
