Jazz Funk Soul – Life And Times

Jazz Funk Soul was formed by keyboardist Jeff Lorber, guitarist Chuck Loeb and sax player Everette Harp. Late guitarist Chuck Loeb considered the group as a natural extension of the fun and high level of creativity that was taking place on stage each night. In this formation the trio was blessed to release two albums, the same titled debut album (2014) and the sophomore album More Serious Business (2016).

After Chuck Loeb’s all too early passing away the fan community feared a standstill of further recordings like with the group Fourplay. Now the group Jazz Funk Soul has surprisingly reunited and welcomes its new member guitarist Paul Jackson Jr., who comments: “Chuck, you’re one of the best musicians and best people, I’ve ever met. I speak in present tense because you’re not gone, you’re just not here. I miss you, and look forward to making music with you in Heaven.”

Life And Time is the name of the new album, which will be released January 25, 2019 on Shanachie Entertainment Group and is dedicated to the late Chuck Loeb. Jeff Lorber performs keyboards, Rhodes, acoustic piano, Moog bass, and guitar, Everette Harp keys, alto sax, tenor sax and EWI, Paul Jackson Jr. lead and rhythm guitars.

Contemporary jazz supergroup Jazz Funk Soul was founded by keyboardist Jeff Lorber, guitarist Chuck Loeb and sax player Everette Harp. Their same titled debut album unites their skills to create something that is greater than the sum of its participants. Making some impact on fellow musicians and audience is all the group want to do.

More Serious Business is the title of their sophomore album. Their second project is supported by prolific musicians like Vinnie Colaiuta, Gary Novak and Michael White (drums), Michael Thompson and Paul Jackson Jr. (rhythm guitar), David Mann (sax and flutes), Ron Jenkins, Will Lee, Nathan East and Alex Al (bass), Lenny Castro and Kevin Richards (percussion), Harry Kim and Trevor Neumann (trumpet), and Darryl Crooks (Wahguitar).

Our Thing is the acoustic statement for smooth jazz. Up-tempo, dynamic and a hooking melody. Propelled by Vinnie’s drums the trio shows how brilliant performance in fast pace sounds. On Connections the group serves a heartfelt melody in a Fourplay style. Tuesday Swings jumps into a groovy music with Everette Harp’s fantastic horn arrangement.

Jazz Funk Soul – Jazz Funk Soul

Three heavyweights of contemporary jazz joined to form the supergroup Jazz Funk Soul, keyboardist Jeff Lorber, guitarist Chuck Loeb and sax player Everette Harp. Chuck Loeb has an affinity for collaborations such as Metro and Fourplay. He comments this new formation꞉ “Making this album seemed like a natural extension of the fun and high level of creativity that was taking place on stage each night.” We will see concerts of this group in September, 2014.

On selected tracks the group is joined by Gary Nowak, Lionel Cordew and Brian Dunne (drums), Dave Mann (horns), Lenny Castro (percussion), James Genus and John Patitucci (bass), A. Ray Fuller (rhythm guitar), Till Brönner (trumpet), and Mark Hollingsworth (flutes).

The album starts with Speed Of Light designed by Jeff Lorber to bring the skills of the trio in the foreground. Jeff Lorber gives his Rhodes a lead, while Harp adds the alto sax accentuated horn segment, finally Choeb decorates it with quick chords in the style of Benson. If it ain’t got that swing, it don’t mean a thing. That’s the simple reason, why Chuck serves Swingette. A piece with that jazzy extra꞉ Combine that heart swinging groove with a sophisticated harmonic palette (Loeb).
