Doug Jones – Tonight

Hailing from Connecticut saxophonist Doug Jones is as leader of the Doug Jones Group frequently performing in selected American jazz clubs, when the Corona virus allows it. His solo projects encompasses the albums Heart and Soul (1994), Shades Of Gray (2002), Top Down (2013), Secrets (2016) and Crossing Lines (2018). In 2019 he recorded the Christmas album Home For Christmas. This year Doug presents the EP Tonight.

Doug wrote, arranged, produced and recorded all of the songs except New Situation. This  song was created by producer/keyboardist Chris “Big Dog” Davis where Doug came up with the melody for the song.

Doug introduces into his new project with the title song featuring himself in all his facets as multi-instrumentalist. His real strength is undoubtedly the saxophone, on which he is at his peak form.

Doug Jones – Home for Christmas

Saxophonist Doug Jones releases his first smooth jazz Christmas CD. The first single, “Feliz Navidad”, which features Alto Saxophone and Acoustic Guitar in a Latin setting, has been on Billboards most added list for several weeks. The CD contains eight Christmas Classics performed with fresh arrangements in a Smooth / Contemporary Jazz Instrumental setting. The one vocal song,” The Christmas Song”, features vocalist Joel Kibble from the group Take 6.

Doug Jones – Crossing Lines

You’ve had some opportunities to familiarize yourself with Doug Jones’ music. Heart and Soul (1994), Shades Of Gray (2002), Top Down (2013) and Secrets (2016) are his assets. Crossing Lines (2018) makes it even easier for you.

Doug performs on the new album alto and tenor saxophones, flute, keys, and programming. Rick Handville plays electric guitar on the title song, Troy Slocum Hammond organ on Hand Clappin’ and keyboards on Zen Garden. Two friends with whom he has already worked successfully on his earlier productions. Doug has written, arranged, and produced all songs.

It is the special moments in life that makes it worth living. For Doug, that includes Watching the Sunrise and this instant he lives out musically with great emotions.

Doug Jones – Crossing Lines

Connecticut based saxophonist Doug Jones has already released the albums Heart and Soul (1994), Shades Of Gray (2002), and Top Down (2013). In 2016 followed Secrets.

The new CD, Crossing Lines (2018), is a melodic, Contemporary / Smooth Jazz CD in the style of Dave Koz, Michael Lington and David Sanborn. The first single from the CD to go to National and International Smooth Jazz Radio stations is “Watching The Sunrise”. All songs feature Doug Jones on Alto and Tenor Saxophones. The track “One Flight South” also features Doug Jones on Flute.

Connecticut based saxophonist Doug Jones has already released the albums Heart and Soul (1994), Shades Of Gray (2002), and Top Down (2013). This year he returns with Secrets.

He recorded his new album with band member Rick Handville (guitars) and in addition Troy Slocum (string arrangement). Doug performs saxophones, flutes, keys and programming. All songs are written, arranged, recorded and produced by Doug himself.

With Sunshine the album takes a start. Like a sun ray shines the dazzling melody always the sax in the lead. Rick Handville drops in some Benson like guitar riffs.

He recorded his new album with band members Rick Handville (guitars, keyboards), Frank Giguere (drums), and Craig Carfinkel (bass). Additional musicians on selected tracks are Idalbert Perdomo (percussion), William Grodski (trumpet, flugelhorn), Jay Rowe (keyboards) and Warren Amerman (guitar). All songs are written by Doug himself.

My first impression of the starting piece Suspense: the group has recorded the album exactly as it also presents live. The absence of technical gimmicks demands something familiarization by the listener.
