Bill Sharpe – Famous People Live

Keyboard virtuoso and composer Bill Sharpe is together with drummer Roger Odell, guitarist Keith Winter and producer Nigel Wright founding member of the famous British group Shakatak. With Roger Odell, singer Jill Saward and bassist George Anderson he is one of the core members of the group.

He is the composer of hits like “Night Birds”, “Invitations”, “Dark is the Night”, “Down on the Street” and “Mr. Manic and Sister Cool”, which define the style of this popular formation.

His solo career is marked by numerous releases such as Famous People (1980), State Of The Heart (1989),Close To My Heart (2006) and successful collaborations with Gary Numan under the name “Sharpe and Gary” (Automatic), Don Grusin (GeographyTransatlantica) and bass player Jah Wobble (Kingdom of Fitzrovia).

Don Grusin & Bill Sharpe – Geography

American composer, producer, arranger and pianist Don Grusin along with composer and pianist Bill Sharpe have recently released a new album called Trans Atlántica (2012). This album is available in Europe as a double-pack with Geography, which both recorded in 2006.

The duo invited to their first project musicians of the new and the old world: Till Brönner (trumpet, flugelhorn), Fridrick Karlson (guitar), Mornington Lockett (sax), Jill Saward (vocals), Nelson Rangell (flute), Natalie Rene (vocals) Charlie Bisharat (violin), Nick Cohen (bass), and Jamie Odell (programming).

The title Heat includes everything the first song has to offer. Brönner on trumpet and Don and Bill let it burn on this fast paced tune. Sunny Rainy has much of the character Shakatak is so popular for, but here and there sets Grusin his marks.

Don Grusin & Bill Sharpe – Trans Atlántica

Grammy awarded American composer, producer, arranger and pianist Don Grusin has released in 35 years 20 CDs of his own, performing with the who is who of the jazz world.

Composer and pianist Bill Sharpe is a member of the famous UK group Shakatak. Bill’s solo projects are Famous People (1985), State of the Heart (1998), Close To My Heart (2006) and Peace Of Mind (1999) with guitarist Fridrik Karlsson, member of Mezzoforte.

Sharpe met Grusin through his consultancy work for Technics keyboards. Grusin co-produced Sharpe’s second solo album in Los Angeles. Their first collaboration as composers and musicians was the album Geography (2006). Trans Atlántica (2012) is the second collaboration of these two great keyboardists.
