James Dawkins – Phenomenon

James “JD” Dawkins Jr. is an accomplished musician, composer, songwriter, and producer. James was born and raised in Miami, Florida. James Dawkins plays several different instruments including bass guitar, drums, trumpet, lead guitar, and B3 organ. Dawkins developed his soulful rich sound from influences such as Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Chic Corea, and the Average White Band just to name a few. His unique sound is a combination of Jazz, Soul, R&B and Gospel genres.

In 2015 he released his debut Smooth Jazz album titled Smile For Me which is still in rotation on Smooth Jazz and Contemporary Jazz radio networks across the country/world. When the James Dawkins Band is not touring, he actively serves as the music director for various artists and organizations throughout Los Angeles. His sophomore album is entitled A Jazzy Christmas.

His eclectic soulful jazz can be heard in his latest single, Miami Bossa, as part of his album PhenomenonJames Dawkins’ third studio release. Early recordings began in early 2017 until June 2018 and released on August 3rd, 2018. There were many obstacles and alterations in between as well as last minute additions that brought this album to where it stands now. The fusion of jazz, funk and soul make the album a unique instrumental masterpiece. The album features vocals from Lady Blakkbyrd, David Olivieri and JeRonelle (who recently was a contestant on the show “The Four”). Many amazing musicians filled the feel good album with musical notes complimenting James’ keyboard playing. On drums we have Matias Menarguez & Nat Stokes, guitar with Hubie Wang, Tremaine Young & Andrew Paiva, and a special feature from saxophonist Donald Hayes. This album has been detailed from beginning to end where it takes you on a musical journey. We hope it finds your ears.
