Jesse Cook – The Rumba Foundation

E1 Music released the new album by world music guitarist extraordinaire Jesse Cook. The Rumba Foundation was released on September 29th, 2009. The Rumba Foundation brings Cook on a journey across time, space and sound. In the 1800s sailors travelled to Spain carrying a hot new rhythm from Cuba: Rumba. Gypsies took this dance rhythm and created their own hybrid: “Rumba Flamenco.” 150 years later, Jesse makes it a round trip by bringing Rumba Flamenco back to its roots, but modernized in what might be his strongest work yet.

With this new release, Jesse melds his trademark Rumba Flamenco style with the music of Cuba, Haiti and Colombia, among others. With all of the instrumental pyrotechnics he employs, Jesse”s emphasis is always on the melody and the infectious rhythms that make him an airplay favorite. Amidst all of his dazzling, soulful original compositions, Jesse adds a special highlight — a spectacular arrangement of Paul Simon”s classic “Cecilia,” an adaptation that is as creative and catchy as anything he”s ever recorded.

Jesse Cook has sold over 1 million albums world wide, and over 400,000 in the U.S. alone. In 2008, he achieved something no one before him ever has. He dominated both the smooth jazz radio charts with his Top 3 single, “Café Mocha,” and the Billboard New Age chart with his #1 album “Frontiers,” which to date has spent over 70 weeks in the Top 10. Jesse Cook is a 2009 Acoustic Guitar magazine Player”s Choice Silver Award winner, finishing second only to the legendary Paco De Lucia. At the same time, he continues to play sold-out concerts all over North America and indeed the world, electrifying audiences everywhere with energetic, virtuosic, and melodic concerts.

Matt Marshak – Family Funktion

Long Island born guitarist Matt Marshak gave us already the albums Preservation (2001), This Time Around (2004),  Groovosphere (2006) and On The Rocks (2008). Now he is back with his brand-new album Family Funktion (2009). Guest musicians on his new album are Shilts (Down To The Bone), David Mann, Stix Bones, Benjie Porecki, Kevin Flournoy, Carl Carter, Chris Marshak, Hans Z, Carl Burnett, Deadra Aziza and more. Matt comments his new album: “To me, it’s just not all about me. It’s about the whole unit and the people I work with.”

How Ya Like Me Now is the question and starting theme of Matt’s new album. Matt takes the direct way to you heart playing his guitar in a straight way without any decoration. I Will Be With You features Shilts, who is widely known as sax player and front man of the project Down To The Bone. The track has some acid jazz flavor injected with a hard snare beat and Shilt’s signature sound. At the second part of the song Matt, Shilts and keyboardist Kevin Flournoy walk into a heavy acceleration of the theme.

On the slow-tempo Uptown Mario Cruz flourishes on flute and sax. Mario performed and toured with the legendary rock-fusion group Blood, Sweat and Tears, Bruce Springsteen, Dave Edmunds, Natalie Cole and blues artist Willie Deville. Mario’s sax and Matt’s guitar push the tune to the final summit.
