Michael Ross – A Special Thing

A native of Chicago, Illinois. Michael Ross was encouraged at an early age to take private guitar lessons at the Chicago School of Music. While advancing his studies in music, Michael has played some of Chicago’s local jazz clubs. His first big break was becoming a staff guitarist for the New York Broadway National Touring Company’s production of “The Wiz,” that toured across the country.

Michael’s style and artistry have enabled him to perform with a number of great artists such as, Ramsey Lewis, Hank Crawford, Najee, Jimmy McGriff, Angela Bofill and Jonthan Butler.

Michael Ross continues to shine on his new release CD A Special Thing, a very romantic piece that takes the listener on a rendezvous of romance and adventure. He also put his guitar on spin on the classic tune Make It With You. His guitar work on The Blaze is exciting and moving.  Najee’s performance is awesome on The Secret Door, he’s playing outside of his traditional style which makes it very refreshing. Michael then is summing up the album with a touching and heartfelt melody For All The Good Times. This is an all around great CD, one you shouldn’t miss. A Special Thing is the new arrival at CDBaby.

Sam Levine – Sax In The City

Nashville studio musicians know Sam Levine as one of the busiest woodwind players in town. In one day he might play saxophone for a country artist, flute or penny whistle for a gospel artist and clarinet in a traditional jazz band. His playing has given color and expression to a wide variety of artists’ tracks, including Amy Grant, the Neville Brothers, Vince Gill and Michael McDonald. He is known for his reliable ensemble skills and his melodic, expressive solos.

Sam has more than 10 artist Cd’s in the smooth jazz and contemporary Christian genres. He has been nominated three times for a Dove Award and played on at least two Grammy Award winning recordings.

Sax In The City is an unabashedly commercial smooth jazz project. As such, it’s something of a musical time machine as Levine reprises big-time radio hits from the ’70s and ’80s, including two (!) from Ambrosia, The Biggest Part Of Me and How Much I Feel, as well as Hall & Oates’s Sara Smile, George Michaels’ Careless Whispers,  Little River Band’s Reminiscing, Earth, Wind & Fire’s After The Love Has Gone.

Levine gives it to the listener straight in an equally straightfoward Nashville studio production. And one can imagine the music working its magic in any number of upscale, equally retro singles bars, the requisite soundtrack to good cognac and the hoped-for seduction that follows. This album is available now at CDBaby.

Mark Adams – Something’s Going On

Mark Adams is a worldly jazz & soul jazz seasoned artist. This prominent jazz pianist’s third release, Something’s Going On, produced with Roy Ayers is a gumbo of R&B, soul and the purest jazz for the soul (Soul Jazz). Mark has worked with some of the finest artist in the industry such as the wonderful jazz icon Roy Ayers, Ronnie Laws, Wayne Henderson, Jean Carne, Lonnie Liston Smith, Bobbi Humphrey, Jon Lucien, Tom Brown, Angela Bofil, Zachary Breaux, Mikki Howard, Lela Hathaway, Ron Carter, Hugh Masekela, Chico Freeman, Eddie Henderson, The Brooklyn Funk Essentials, Savion Glover, Dave Valentine, Noel Pointer and Tito Puente.

The Soul Jazz Experience is a precious collection of America’s rawest art form that has expanded to create new horizons in this beautiful, note genre of self-expression while preserving the seeds and roots of improvisation. This is Mark’s homage to those incredibly talented and courageous pioneers who made the blueprints for all music labeled as jazz. Add Jazz with a dash of hip-hop, a pinch of R&B and a whole lot of soul to create a sound to caress the senses and tantalize the soul….while keeping the true essence of Jazz in tact.  Taste Something’s Going On at CDBaby.

Jesse Cook – The Rumba Foundation

E1 Music released the new album by world music guitarist extraordinaire Jesse Cook. The Rumba Foundation was released on September 29th, 2009. The Rumba Foundation brings Cook on a journey across time, space and sound. In the 1800s sailors travelled to Spain carrying a hot new rhythm from Cuba: Rumba. Gypsies took this dance rhythm and created their own hybrid: “Rumba Flamenco.” 150 years later, Jesse makes it a round trip by bringing Rumba Flamenco back to its roots, but modernized in what might be his strongest work yet.

With this new release, Jesse melds his trademark Rumba Flamenco style with the music of Cuba, Haiti and Colombia, among others. With all of the instrumental pyrotechnics he employs, Jesse”s emphasis is always on the melody and the infectious rhythms that make him an airplay favorite. Amidst all of his dazzling, soulful original compositions, Jesse adds a special highlight — a spectacular arrangement of Paul Simon”s classic “Cecilia,” an adaptation that is as creative and catchy as anything he”s ever recorded.

Jesse Cook has sold over 1 million albums world wide, and over 400,000 in the U.S. alone. In 2008, he achieved something no one before him ever has. He dominated both the smooth jazz radio charts with his Top 3 single, “Café Mocha,” and the Billboard New Age chart with his #1 album “Frontiers,” which to date has spent over 70 weeks in the Top 10. Jesse Cook is a 2009 Acoustic Guitar magazine Player”s Choice Silver Award winner, finishing second only to the legendary Paco De Lucia. At the same time, he continues to play sold-out concerts all over North America and indeed the world, electrifying audiences everywhere with energetic, virtuosic, and melodic concerts.

Matt comments his new album: “To me, it’s just not all about me. It’s about the whole unit and the people I work with.”

How Ya Like Me Now is the question and starting theme of Matt’s new album. Matt takes the direct way to you heart playing his guitar in a straight way without any decoration. I Will Be With You features Shilts, who is widely known as sax player and front man of the project Down To The Bone. The track has some acid jazz flavor injected with a hard snare beat and Shilt’s signature sound. At the second part of the song Matt, Shilts and keyboardist Kevin Flournoy walk into a heavy acceleration of the theme.

On the slow-tempo Uptown Mario Cruz flourishes on flute and sax. Mario performed and toured with the legendary rock-fusion group Blood, Sweat and Tears, Bruce Springsteen, Dave Edmunds, Natalie Cole and blues artist Willie Deville. Mario’s sax and Matt’s guitar push the tune to the final summit.
